The First Second
God-time isn’t anything like man-time. If you were given just one second to do something, what are some possibilities? Speak a few words? Pitch a baseball? Take a couple gulps of water? Walk a few steps? On page 16 of Countdown to Adam, the Creator is about to speak three words: ”LET THERE BE”. Let’s go back to that moment in Heaven and look at some excerpts from the book.
{He who sat upon the throne, the Ancient of Days, handed the sealed Book of Nature to the Son standing by his side. Heaven suddenly became utterly still, filled with anticipation and awe. He removed a seed-sized object and explained, “I hold before you a singularity. It is a ‘something’, not a ‘nothing.’ It is not yet living, but it is full of colossal potential for a new world to be filled with life. The Breath of God upon this seed will abruptly trigger what will appear to you to be a runaway explosion, but I assure you it is perfectly controlled and in harmony with our plan.”
In the next moment, the Life-Giver of Creation breathed on the seed as Logos (the Son) spoke, “Let there be!” Suddenly, in response to his Word, the seed flashed with unimaginable force, heat, and brightness. A ‘something’ was birthed. The mesmerized heavenly host burst forth in praise and shouts for joy. A beaming Agent of Creation gave his stamp of approval with a hearty, “This is good, very good!”}
It appears that our universe had a beginning; so, says science…so, says the Bible. Science calls this birthing the “cosmic creation event”; to some this is referred to as the “Big Bang”. I want to focus on the very first second following the birth of the universe. Ok, I know what some of you are thinking:” nobody was there back then, so how could we possibly know what went on in the first second?” Let’s cut scientists a little slack and see what they’ve come up with, based on their circumstantial evidence.
Cosmic Creation Event (CCE)
At the CCE moment, time, space, and matter appear; the four forces of physics (gravity, strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force, and electromagnetism) are not yet revealed, but united in one, infinitely hot force.

The zeros are for effect, to give you a feel for just how much God accomplished in so little time. The purpose of this blog is not to instruct you in quantum physics – you can go to Google for more details. Also, there are scientific articles written that inform you how such calculations about the first seconds of the universe were arrived at. But creation miracles didn’t cease with the Big Bang; they’re on-going today.
Imagine a scene where God is about to introduce another new creation – YOU! You have been in his thoughts likely for eternity, at least according to Psalm 139; “My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth… your eyes saw my unformed substance.” The moment just-the-right seed penetrates just-the-right egg cell, the Creator speaks “made in my image”, and the new person is birthed, equipped with all the plans and potential for an earth-lifetime, and ‘in Christ’, for Eternity. Is not your first second of life after conception just as miraculous as the first second of our universe?
